Ponderosa Pine - Pinus ponderosa

Narrow to broad pyramidal when young and develops an irregular cylindrical and narrow crown, with numerous short stout branches. Foliage: In threes, sometimes two’s, remaining for 3 years. The needles are 4—9” long. The color ranges from dark green to yellowish green. Cones are 3—5” long, 1 1/2—2” wide, light reddish brown with sharp thorn at tip of scales. Prefers a deep moist well-drained loam soil. Resistant to drought, most abundant growth takes place on light, deep, moist, well-drained soils. Useful for mass plantings and
shelterbelts. Food and nesting sites for birds
